DIALOGUES OF LOVE AND NATURE

The itinerary develops from Room XX of the Gallery where the small and precious exhibition focusing on Titian’s painting Nymph and Shepherd, on loan from the Kunsthistoriches Museum in Vienna, is located.

The exhibition allows a true dialogue to develop between four Titian paintings, Sacred and Profane LoveVenus blindfolding Cupid, The Three Ages of Man (in the impeccable copy executed by Sassoferrato) and, indeed, Nymph and Shepherd. Two early works and two late works, in a thematic and stylistic comparison that will take the visitor, through nuptial allegories and sylvan myths, from Titian to Titian: from the moral certainties of the young master to the doubtful complexity of the artist as an old man. The journey on love themes and the “moralized” landscape will continue in the other rooms of the Gallery, through the reading of works by Domenichino, Francesco Albani, Paris Bordon, Lucas Cranach and Lavinia Fontana, in which Venus, Cupid, Diana or Minerva compete for dominance over the human soul.

Guided tours take place Friday through Sunday at 5:10 pm, only in Italian language.

The cost is €8, plus ticket price and reservation fees.

Activities for Families

WE SET THE WINGS Stories of Arrows and Cupids in Flight at the Galleria Borghese

The Galleria Borghese’s Educational Team offers children and their families in visit at the museum a workshop path dedicated to Cupid and his amorous arrows.

The aim is to stimulate the observational skills of both the young and their caregivers and to empathetically involve children in the stories told, for an emotional encounter with the works of art and themes presented in the exhibition.

After an introduction to the theme, children will be given sheets with reproductions of wing details to search, in a small treasure hunt, for the paintings from which they are taken. A game of identification with the depicted Cupids will then be proposed, to try to experience their emotions and understand the subject of the painting. The educator, after collecting the children’s cues, will tell the stories depicted in the paintings.

The meeting will end with the making of “winged” pastel drawings.

The educational tour takes place on Saturdays and Sundays at 4 p.m. and lasts about 80 minutes, only in Italian language.

The target audience is children aged 5 to 11.

The cost is €5 plus ticket price and reservation fee, for accompanying adults and children.

Reservation required by contacting +39 06 32810 or by clicking BUY
