Flora

Attributed to Luini Bernardino

(Milan? c.1485 - Milan 1532)

The panel was part of a substantial body of Lombard Leonardesque works that entered Scipione Borghese’s collection very early on, an expression of the outcome of the modern concept of painting favoured by the cardinal. Variously interpreted, also as a copy or variant after Bernardino Luini, the painting was compared also to well-known examples by Francesco Melzi, a particularly faithful follower of Leonardo. The painting is currently attributed to Luini.
