Head of an Apostle
Rubens Pieter Paul, in the manner
(Siegen 1577 - Antwerp 1640)
This skillful painting cannot be identified in the old inventories of the Collection, even though they do list various “heads” of philosophers and prophets, which were quite common in the collections of the time. The sketch-like style, more like a painting than a drawing, has led to the attribution of the work to the circle of Rubens, the famous Flemish artist, who was in Italy a number of times at the beginning of the 17th century.
