Holy Family with the Infant Saint John the Baptist
(Florence 1492 - after 1527)
Formerly ascribed to Andrea del Sarto, the painting should be included among the gallery’s final acquisitions and is now agreed to be by Puligo. The compositional structure of the work and the features of the Child are reminiscent of Andrea del Sarto, but the arrangement of the characters, with Saint Joseph pushed into the upper corner, together with the vivacity of the palette and the characteristics of execution, are strongly in keeping with Puligo’s style.
