Landscape with a Scene under a Tent

Grimaldi Giovan Francesco
(Bologna 1606 - Rome 1680)

The work is part of the series of four acquired directly from the artist in 1678 by Prince Giovan Battista Borghese. The small figures in the four paintings are merely a pretext, the real protagonist being the landscape, a genre in which the Bolognese artist excelled. On the right of the painting is depicted a tent, under which a meal is taking place, as shown by the plates and glasses on the ground and in the hands of the merry diners.
