Rubiales Pedro de, called Roviale spagnolo, copy after
(c.1511 - 1560)
oil on panel, cm 84 x 65
Previously attributed to Cristoforo Roncalli and an imitator of Salviati, the work was recently identified as a copy of the one in the Palazzo Reale in Naples executed by the Spanish painter Pedro de Rubiales, better known as Roviale spagnolo. A follower of Giorgio Vasari, the artist renders in the composition the particular rotations of figures typical of the Tuscan-Roman component of the master from Arezzo.
