Portrait of a woman
Pulzone Scipione, in the manner
(Gaeta c. 1550 - Rome 1598)
Cited beginning with Manilli, this splendid portrait is listed in the 1790 inventory as a work by Scipione Pulzone. However, this attribution should be qualified by a comparison with works that are indubitably the Master’s, which show a different rendering of the features of the figures. The portrayal of this noble woman is characterised by the meticulous description of her clothing and ornaments, while the little book with its elegantly decorated cover, as well as her serious and straightforward look, seems to allude to her spirituality.
