da Ponte Leandro called Leandro Bassano
(Bassano del Grappa 1557 - Venice 1622)
'400 - '500
oil on copper, cm 52 x 43
The work is mentioned as in the Collection in 1693. The signature “Leand. Bass.us. f.” emerged during the restoration of the work, which confirmed its attribution to the artist in the 1790 and 1833 inventories. Portraying Christ dead on the cross beneath God the Father and the dove of the Holy Spirit, this little painting derives from the altarpiece by Pordenone in the vestry of the Cathedral of S. Daniele, a work that inspired a number of other artists.
