The poor condition of the canvas makes it extremely difficult to analyze. Mentioned in the 1693 inventory, the painting portrays two men – one of whom is holding a dog – and is definitely the work of a Venetian painter. However, the proposed attribution to Frangipane, an artist influenced by Giorgione and Titian, who was active in Venetia during the 16th century, can only be accepted with reservations.
