“GLIMMERS. MENTAL HEALTH PATHWAYS AT GALLERIA BORGHESE”

In recent years, Galleria Borghese has launched a series of projects dedicated to audiences with various vulnerabilities, qualifying the museum as a “protected” space, a place of well-being, where they can forge and nurture relationships, draw inspiration and elaborate thoughts, with the ultimate goal of bringing about a positive change in their lives.

Thanks to an agreement with ASL Roma1 (Local Health Authority Roma 1), since 2019 a group of people who attend mental health centres have been taking part in the project “GLIMMERS. Mental health pathways at Galleria Borghese”. The activities involve them in practices of active cultural participation in which the museum offers them informal learning that delves into the history of its extraordinary collections, so that, in special dedicated occasions, the participants can then experience themselves in the telling of the works, reworking complex and often painful experiences.

Last year, Borghese archaeology inspired them, thanks to listening to Beyond the Marble, the accessibility Office’s podcast. Subsequently, in the museum, guided observation of the works and introspective moments of discussion led by the project team generated personal texts, autobiographical narratives, which were then recorded by the authors’ own voices. From these unique and unexpected encounters, GLIMMERS podcast was born, which the public can listen to on Spotify and Spreaker every Monday starting from October 13.
