EXTRAORDINARY OPENINGS OF THE SECRET GARDENS OF SCIPIONE BORGHESE ARE BACK!
The weekends of the 12th and 13th, 26th and 27th of November and the 3rd and 4th of December the exquisite seventeenth century gardens of the Birdhouse and the Meridian will be extraordinarily open to visitors of the museum from 9.30 AM to 1 PM and the curators of the museum will be available for brief thematic insights.
Both of the gardens were realized for want of Scipione Borghese in the first years of the XVII century and, in spite of the numerous alterations that took place in time, have conserved the original plant.
Here, in the past, rare and exotic flowers that were in vague at the time were cultivated and exposed. In particular, bulbaceous and antique cultivar resulting from the selections of florists of the time. Today it is still possible to admire the original disposition as boxes (the flower beds of the time ) with a geometrical stamp, delimitated by a border of roman tiles that allows for a close up contemplation of every species.
In the garden, it is possible to admire the collection of citruses, with different varieties of Citrus lemon, the most classic of lemons, but also the Citrus mitis, the sinensis, the maxima and the limetta; the swamp hibiscus and the mutabilis one, also known as the cotton rose, and many other species. It will also be possible to admire the garden of the Meridian that was recently revived to the planting of more than 1500 exemplars of horned violet rose antique.
The access to the garden is included in the cost of the ticket for the museum.
