Flora Room

The room takes its name from the subject depicted in the middle of the ceiling, executed in 1785 by Domenico De Angelis (1735–1804). Here Flora is represented as the mother of plants and flowers according to the iconography of Ovid’s Fasti..The trompe-oeil elements and vegetal volutes, instead, were painted by Giovan Battista Marchetti (1730–1800).
The last of the six fireplaces on the first floor, the work of Luigi (1726-1785) and Giuseppe Valadier (1762-1839) was built in 1786, with the collaoration of Antonio De Rossi (active in the second half of the eighteenth century) for the gilded bronze sheet and Domenico Cialdi (active in the second half of the eighteenth century) for the internal facing with polychrome tiles.
The paintings on display show the influence of Michelangelo on artists from different places in the second half of the sixteenth century.
Among the works are the Christ Deposed with Mary Magdalene and Two Angels by Marcello Venusti (1512-1579) and the Adoration of the Child by Pellegrino Tibaldi (1527-1596).
The two little allegories by Jacopo Zucchi (c. 1540 - c. 1596), executed on copper, probably come from Ferdinando de‘ Medici’s study in Rome.
