The Borghese Gallery's scientific meetings lectures and study days.
INTERVENTION – Dominique Poulot, Emeritus Professor at Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne University.
On 29 September 2025, the Galleria Borghese hosted the concluding conference of the PRIN 2022 (Project of Relevant National Interest) “The Galleria Borghese and Its Publics, 1888–1938,” curated by Francesca Cappelletti and Lucia Simonato.
Under the scientific direction of the latter, the project—funded by the European Union–Next Generation EU (Mission 4, Component 1)—has, since 2023, involved three universities: the Scuola Normale Superiore, with the participation of Alessandro Del Puppo; the University of Palermo and the University of Naples “Federico II,” under the respective supervision of Alexander Auf der Heyde and Sandro Morachioli; and has benefited from the scientific collaboration of the museum. The aim has been to restore, from a multi-perspective standpoint, the study of the Galleria Borghese’s public, from its complex transfer to the Italian State up to the eve of the Second World War: a crucial fifty-year period (1888–1938) both for the institutional consolidation of the museum and the renewed enhancement of its collections, as well as for the development in Italy of the very notion of protection and cultural heritage.
