Masterpieces from the Borghese at Palazzo Barberini

Galleria Borghese has long launched an ambitious project of renewal and preservation, made possible by PNRR funds. Following the restoration of the façades, this project includes replacing tapestries, modernizing fixtures for energy efficiency, expanding cultural accessibility, upgrading storage facilities, and restoring several large canvases. It is the multiplicity and complexity of these interventions that have necessitated the transfer of a portion of the paintings to Palazzo Barberini. This initiative is also a unique and unmissable opportunity to create a dialogue between two collections that share a similar history, linked to two crucial figures in 17th-century Roman political and cultural life—Scipione Borghese and Maffeo Barberini—in an ideal historical, cultural, and even geographical proximity, given the short walking distance between the two locations.

From March 29 to June 30, 2024, Galleria Borghese and the National Galleries of Ancient Art are undertaking an unprecedented collaboration to allow the public to continue enjoying the heritage preserved on the first floor of the museum, which has been temporarily moved to the prestigious rooms of the South Wing on the piano nobile of Palazzo Barberini.
