Adriano Aymonino – Timeless Wonder Ep.3
In this video made on the occasion of the exhibition “Timeless Wonder. Painting on Stone in Rome between the Sixteenth and Seventeenth Centuries,” Adriano Aymonino, Professor of Art History at Buckingham University, delves into the practice of reusing ancient stone materials in the modern era. He examines the beautiful high relief of Alexander the Great in the Borghese Gallery in which an ancient relief, probably a first-century AD Roman copy of a Hellenistic portrait, was set and completed in the first half of the 1600s by a stonemason in the service of the Borghese family.
