The Caravaggio room: the artist, the context, the followers
July 10th 2023
No museum in the world can boast six paintings by Caravaggio, such as the Galleria Borghese: evidence of the cardinal’s predilection for this “scandalous” artist. The analysis of the six canvases (which can be placed chronologically from his beginnings to his early death) allows us to reconstruct the turbulent life, thought and technique of the Lombard painter. Caravaggio’s revolutionary significance is made more evident by comparison with the works of contemporary artists – such as Cavalier d’Arpino – and followers.
