CARAVAGGIO-BACON

From 2 October 2009 to 24 January 2010 the Galleria Borghese will celebrate Caravaggio on the 400th anniversary of his death by juxtaposing his masterpieces with paintings by Francis Bacon, the centenary of whose birth falls in 2009. These two extreme figures have become part of the collective imagination as “cursed” artists whose painting expresses the torment of existence with equal intensity and brilliant inventiveness

Bacon has nothing of Caravaggio and was not inspired by him, but if there is an artist of our time who can be compared to Caravaggio it is precisely Bacon.
