EXTRAORDINARY FREE OPENINGS OF THE GIARDINO DELL’UCCELLIERA
From Wednesday 25th May until 4th August, the beautiful seventeenth-century Giardino dell’Uccelliera will be open to the public from Tuesday to Friday on an extraordinary basis and free of charge.
The Giardino dell’Uccelliera, a typical example of a Roman garden, built at the behest of Scipione Borghese in the early seventeenth century, has retained its original layout despite the numerous changes it has undergone over time.
There used to cultivate and exhibit precious and exotic flowers, fashionable at the time, especially bulbous plants and ancient cultivars resulting from the selections of florists of the time. Today it is still possible to admire its original arrangement in “boxes” (the flower beds of the time) of a geometric mold, delimited by a border of Roman tiles that allows a close contemplation of each species.
In the garden it is possible to admire a collection of citrus fruits, with different varieties of Citrus limon, the most classic of lemons, but also Citrus mitis, sinensis, maxima and limetta; the marsh hibiscus and the mutabilis, also known as the Cotton Rose; the splendid blooms of peonies (Paeonia officinalis), angel flowers (Philadelphus coronarius), cysts (Cistus albidus and ladanifer), nasturtiums (Tropaeolum majus) and many other species.
Access is free with reservations by calling +39 06 67233753 (Monday-Friday 10.30-15.00), subject to availability.
The entrance is at 9.45 am and will take place directly from the Garden, at the side gate located on the side of Piazzale Scipione Borghese. The visit in the garden is 45 minutes long.
